Sterile gauze of minimum quality ten must be provided for covering injuries, together with forceps for the removal of splinters and scissors of at least 100 millimetres in length for cutting dressings or bandages.
A set of safety pins is required for securing bandages and slings, alongside triangular bandages for immobilisation and roller bandages for wrapping injuries. The kit must also contain a roll of elastic adhesive measuring 25 millimetres by three metres, non-allergic adhesive strips of the same dimensions, a packet of adhesive dressing strips with a minimum of ten assorted sizes, first aid dressings measuring 75 millimetres by 100 millimetres, and four larger dressings of 150 millimetres by 200 millimetres. Straight splints must be included for limb support, together with large and medium disposable latex gloves, two CPR mouthpieces or equivalent devices, biocide sachets of six grams, absorbent sachets of forty grams, and 50 millilitres of Eusol disinfectant.
The kit must also provide large and medium household gloves and a biohazard bag for safe disposal of contaminated materials. All contents must comply with South African occupational health and safety requirements and be regularly inspected and replenished to ensure readiness for immediate first aid response.
