For the purpose of complying with Regulation 3 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and maintaining a fully stocked first aid kit within a South African workplace, the kit should be replenished with antiseptic solution for cleaning wounds in a 100 millilitre container, sterile swabs suitable for wound cleansing, and cotton wool of approximately 100 grams for padding and dressing purposes.
The kit must also include sterile gauze of minimum quality ten for covering injuries, forceps for the safe removal of splinters or foreign objects, and scissors of at least 100 millimetres in length for cutting dressings or bandages. Additionally, a complete set of safety pins is required for securing bandages or triangular slings, triangular bandages for immobilisation and support of injured limbs, and roller bandages for wrapping and stabilising injuries.
All items must meet South African safety and hygiene standards to ensure readiness for immediate first aid response.
